BUBBLES

Nikki was sobbing. She was just scolded by her grandmother. Her grandmother whom she lovingly called Granny was a sweet and patient lady. Always cheerful and ready with an awesome story just like all other grandmothers of this world. She had closely cropped hairs and Nikki loved playfully moving her hands on her granny’s head.  Nikki loved sitting sleeping by her side and listening to fairy tales and stories from the epics like Mahabharth and Ramayan. Her granny had a wonderfully sweet voice and her narrations used to make the story come to life. Her stories used to be full of moral values and teachings. Her granny believed stories are the best way to convey a moral or inculcate culture in kids.

So it was a shock for Nikki when her Granny shouted at her this morning. She was just playing with a toy for making bubbles and accidently dropped it. The toy was fragile, probably those cheap Chinese stuffs, and it broke into 2 pieces as soon as it hit the ground. Granny was in the other room, she came into find the broken toy lying on floor and Nikki looking guiltily at her. Somehow Granny lost her temper. “What have you done?? Do you know how much trouble I had to go through to get that stuff? And once broken these damn things can’t even be fixed. Who asked you to pick it up?? What were you doing ?? look at me… LOOK AT ME..”

Nikki shuddered. Tears were streaming down her cheeks.

“Crying won’t fix anything now. Tell me what were you doing?”

“… I.. I was just trying…. Trying to make bubbles….” Nikki stuttered between sobs.

“NEVER. Never touch these stuffs.” Granny hissed and left angrily with her bag. Nikki was all alone in the house. Sobbing to herself.

Xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Granny was feeling bad. She was finding it hard to concentrate on the job. She never meant to scold Nikki. Certainly not that much. Before leaving the neighbourhood she asked Sunita, her neighbour to go to her house and take care of Nikki. She wanted to pacify Nikki herself but she was getting late. Off late she has been under a lot of pressure. Ever since Nikki’s parents died, she was the one who was taking care of her. Although she barely made enough for herself but she was a tough lady. Never the one to shy away from responsibilities.

She started working overtime. Apart from sewing clothes and cleaning utensils in the neighbouring society she started selling toys at the nearby market. She got herself a nice little corner on the street. Being her age, she couldn’t scream to advertise her product so she just used to sit there and blow out bubbles. Being Christmas time, the bubble making toy was in high demand. Apparently people liked bubbles in their parties. It was selling well. So much that apart from covering the expenses for the next month she would be left with some change to buy cake for Nikki. A guy came and inquired for the toy.

“How much for the toy aunty?”

“30 rupees”.

“Wow. That’s too much. How about 20?”

“20 is too less beta. I can give it for 25. That’s the last price”.

“Ok. I will take one”.

The sale was going good. Granny sat there in her corner blowing bubbles. Much like our lives, the bubbles displayed bright, vibrant colours in its brief life time before going off unexpectedly with a *pop*.

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

P.s : That night she apologised to Nikki and shared a cake with her. She let Nikki play with the toy. Her joyful laughter and excitement to blow the bubbles took away all her exhaustion and worries for the future.

THE VOW

It was an intense battle
Being fought with utter passion
Both the warriors were taking their shot
With a grim determination
Arrows were soaring in the sky
Like a streaking star
The sound of the vibrating bow wire
Could be heard near and far

But then the older fellow
Started gaining advantage
The younger guy was losing his grip
Any moment there could be a carnage
An arrow cut across his arm
Another stuck to the side of his chest
The young fellow could not keep up
Even after trying his best

The older warrior was hesitant in fighting
But still he was good
The younger guy was going to lose
Even after doing all he could
The charioteer of the young warrior
Wanted to protect him
But the old pro was relentless today
Charioteer knew his chances are grim

Suddenly there was a flurry of arrows
Which hid the sun
The older fellow was increasing the offensive
There was nowhere to run
The younger warrior
Summoned all his skills
He tried to fight back
He tried to kill

But the old guy was too good
He was not one to tire
He took a perfect shot
And broke the young fellow’s bow wire
The young warrior still stood there
Not wanting to show his back
The old fellow with a helpless face
Continued his attack

Another flurry of arrows came
Which were swift and accurate
They broke the young one’s armour
And thus sealed his fate
It was just a matter of time
Before the young one fell
The charioteer finally had enough
His anger he could no longer quell

Clouds gathered and the earth shook
As the lord broke his deal
He was trembling with anger
When he picked up the chariot’s wheel
With flaring eyes and grave voice
He challenged the old pro
“Come Bheeshm, fight with me..
Go on pick your bow”

The old guy put down his weapons
And kneeled on the battlefield sands
“Kill me my lord
It will be an honour to die at your hands”
The young fellow somehow
Tried to make the things slow
He came to calm down his charioteer
Before he made the blow

“my lord please leave the wheel
And help fix my bow
I will continue the war
You took a no fighting vow”
The lord left the wheel
And glared at the old guy
Bheeshm looked up to the lord
Today was not his day to die

Krishna looked at Bheeshma
And there was a faint hint of smile
Then he turned back and walked away
With a lot of style
Bheeshma was smiling too
As he went back
His weapons were lying in his chariot
Arranged in a neat stack.

He was still not tired
Having energy which defied his age
His smile widened when he remembered
The vow he made in a fit of rage
“No matter what the condition is
Or how much the war deepens
It doesn’t matter how many warriors Pandavas bring
I will make Krishna pick up a weapon”

He was furious at the choice
Made by his young prince
So he made this vow
And regretted it ever since
But Krishna being the ever kind lord
Intervened just before Arjun was getting killed
He picked up the wheel and stopped the battle
So that Bheeshma’s vow could be fulfilled.

Sheldon meets Sherlock

Sheldon, Leonard, Howard and Raj were having dinner at the cheesecake factory after a tiring day at work. Today was a particularly dull day at the restaurant. Apart from the 4 of them, there were just 2 gentlemen sitting at the corner table and one guy sitting next to the bar. Leonard, Howard and Raj were minding their food when Sheldon dropped this one on them.

“Suppose you are given a chance to choose 2 superpowers from the X-men universe, which are the 2 superpowers that you should choose? Hint: There IS a right answer” Sheldon asked at the table, with a sparkle in his eyes.

Leonard dropped his fork and started thinking, “Umm, let’s see. I would like to have Jean Grey’s power of telekinesis, telepathy and Wolverine’s invincibility”.

Sheldon “Wrong. Raj, what about you?”

“I would like to have Storm’s power of controlling the weather and laser eyes of Cyclops. If I can control the weather I will be hailed as a god back in INDIA and having laser eyes is kinda cool”  Raj said with his characteristic smile.

Howard, “How childish. The man is offering you superpowers and you are picking laser eyes like a kid”

Sheldon, “Gentlemen, let’s be adults at this table. Raj’s answer was thoughtful but wrong. Howard?"

‘I would like to have the steel body of Colossus and the power of Mystique to take the appearance and body of anyone I see”

Raj mumbled, “I thought so. Now that Bernadette is out of town the only way of getting a girl in your bed is if you are the girl”

Sheldon, “I am afraid. That is wrong as well. As usual, I will have to give the correct answer. It is magneto’s power to control metals and wolverine’s admantium upgraded skeleton and his longevity. You see, Jean grey was the most powerful mutant but still Wolverine was able to stop her in the movie X men Last stand. Wolverine is invincible. The only person who could have stopped wolverine was Magneto. But since I possess Magneto’s power as well, so I have no threats.”

Leonard gave him a weird look and continued his meal, just then Howard noticed someone sitting at the table in the corner. He was a tall fellow wearing an overcoat. Another man was with him.

Howard, “Holy shit. That’s Sherlock Holmes”

Everyone instantly turned in that direction.

Howard hissed, “Not all at once you amateurs. The first rule of stalking is to look as non-desperate as possible”

Leonard, “The very definition of stalking includes desperation Howard”

Sheldon, “Excuse me Leonard, but as per the definition of Oxford dictionary Stalking means a stealthy pursuit of someone or something. It has no mention of desperation.”

Howard “Thank you Sheldon”

Sheldon continued, “But I think you must be referring to the obsessive checking out of facebook profiles of girls by Howard. That is also a form of stalking and your use of the term desperation is an apt one in that context”

Leonard glared at Howard “Thank you Sheldon”

Raj , “Stop bitching guys, let’s go meet him. I have read the blog written by Dr. Watson about the Lady in pink, it was awesome”

“It was STUDY in pink. Not lady in pink. Why everything has to be about girls with you?” Howard corrected Raj giving him a disgusted look.

Sheldon cut in, “Well Excuse me Howard. I see no incentive to go over there and meet a complete stranger”
Leonard, “Oh come on. You will like him”

All 4 of them went to that table.

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Sherlock and Dr. Watson were discussing something quite intensely and were a bit startled when suddenly all 4 of them were standing next to their table.

Dr. Watson looked up, “Yes? May I help you?”

Sheldon started before anyone else, “I don’t understand the question. Are you indicating that we need some kind of help? Because you MAY help us only if we need any help. And as per my understanding none of us need any help, least of all, help from a complete stranger like yourself. Also are you trying to imply that you would be able to help us if we needed help, which we don’t, without even knowing what kind of help we wanted”

Dr. Watson had a puzzled look on his face. Leonard sighed while Raj and Howard looked away until Sheldon finished.

Leonard, “Sheldon wants to say nice to meet you Dr. Watson. Hi I am Leonard, <pointing towards others he introduced them> this is Raj and Howard.”

Dr. Watson shook hands with them while Sherlock was still sitting in his chair.

Pointing towards Sheldon he asked Leonard, “Who is this guy?”

Sherlock started speaking while still being seated in his chair, “A child prodigy who completed his doctoral well before 20. He is a Physicist at CalTech University. Right handed. Winner of the Stephenson Award. He is obsessive compulsive about cleanliness and orderliness. Had a rough childhood, probably parents who did not get along? Or bullies, maybe both.  Although impulsive at times but he is a harmless guy on the whole, who can be obnoxious.”

Howard, “Holy crap, he’s good”

Raj in a worried voice, “I already feel that he knows all my secrets”

Leonard , “But how do you know all these stuffs about him? You just met him”

Sherlock looked towards Dr. Watson who said, “Don’t”

Sherlock got up from his seat.

Dr. Watson mumbled, “Here we go”

“The relatively larger frontal lobe indicates above average intelligence. The partially hunched stance indicates someone who works with a bent neck most of the times. Where a person with above average intelligence does bends his neck? Books. The impressions on the fingers of his right hand especially the middle finger indicates he holds something for an extended period of time. Pen ? Maybe. But it looks like something bigger. Marker? Probably. Apart from telling that he works with a marker it tells us that he is right handed. From the emblem on the pen in his pocket it is easy to infer that he won the Stephenson Award. Also the year is mentioned as 2005, which was the 110th anniversary of Nobel Prizes.  So he got Stephenson Young Researcher award on 2005, which means he completed his PhD before that. I am guessing his current age as 25 which means at least 9 years ago at the age of 16 he completed his PhD. So in Pasadena, what are the possible workplaces of a young prodigy having marker impressions on his fingers and who is socially awkward to say the least. CalTech. His stance of standing is defensive, he is always on the lookout to counter. A basic sign of a stressful childhood. Bad parents and bullies are the 2 most prevalent causes of a bad childhood. Now I know he is obsessive compulsive about cleanliness because I saw him washing his hands with handwash lotion before starting the meal and even in between. While coming here, out of all 3 of you he was the only one who pushed his chair back at its place near the table, he is obsessive about orderliness. I know he is impulsive because today afternoon he must have been solving a problem on white board and when he did not get the result he rubbed it off with his hands in a fit of rage. Although he washed his hands afterwards but as we all can see the faint mark of the marker ink is still on the side of his palm.”

Sheldon twisted his palm to see the spot, everyone was looking at the palm.

Howard, “How do you get the obnoxious part?”

Sherlock smiled, “I listened to what he said to Watson”

Sheldon, “Hmm fascinating”

Sherlock, “Now if you fine gentlemen will excuse us I have to discuss something with Watson” Sherlock tidied his coat and started to sit down again.

Sheldon, “I am inferring that you are a detective Mr. Sherlock?”

Sherlock, “Wow. You are fast Dr. Sheldon”

Sheldon, “Was that sarcasm?”

Sherlock chuckled, “Yes”.

Sheldon turned to Leonard shaking his head, “I don’t like him at all”.

Sherlock quipped in, “I get that a lot”

Sheldon, “So Mr. Detective , although you must be feeling pretty good inside your head, but let me tell you, we Physicists are far better at deductions than detectives like you. You see, we have to think about those things which are non-existent or even if they are existent, they are intangible. Whereas you detectives have everything in front of your eyes. It is just like fine arts. Stating the obvious, in a manner that it looks impressive”

Sherlock “Oh really. So let’s have a contest. See that guy sitting over there at the bar counter. Tell me what you infer about him?”

Sheldon gulped. His face started twitching. He looked at Leonard, Raj and Howard for any help but they were way too amused at seeing Sheldon being beaten at his own game.

Sheldon, “well I can tell you he is a young man”. He paused.

Sherlock was smirking.

“.. And he really likes beers. And from his seating position at the bar I infer that he is very poor at geometry. The best position to sit at the bar counter is at the center. You get a  better view of everything the bar has to offer. You have the complete attention of the bartender. The time lag between ordering and receiving is the lowest. But this guy is sitting at the corner. I would say he is not very bright.” Sheldon concluded and looked at Sherlock.

Dr. Watson , Leonard, Raj and Howard were all waiting for Sherlock’s come back.

“Well he is a sturdy man, probably ex military. The soles of his shoes are evenly worn out, so he walks with an upright stance. He is right handed and judging by his hair style he is a fan of the punk rock bands of the eighties. The jacket has seen better days, so he may be in some kind of financial trouble nowadays but he still comes in a restaurant and drinks beer at the bar. So he is not worried about it. Probably do not have a family. He is heavier than he appears judging by the slight buckling of the stool legs.”

Sherlock looked at Sheldon, “And that is how you make a deduction”

Howard, “Wait a minute, whatever you deduced about him is giving me an idea. All those traits, especially being heavier than you appear points to only one guy”.

Everyone was looking intently at the guy sitting on the stool with his back turned towards them. Just then Penny re-appeared in the bar counter and handed over the glass of beer.

“Here, enjoy your beer Mr. Logan”

Raj almost cried out loud with happiness, “Holy crap it is Wolverine”

Sheldon, “Now that we have a really experienced guy amidst us, I think we can ask him to decide who is better at deduction, Physicists or Detectives?”

Dr. Watson “Sherlock we do not have time for this”

Sherlock laughed, “Let’s see where it goes. Let’s ask that guy”

Sheldon “Hang on.” He hurried to his bag and  scribbled something on a piece of paper and returned with a document. “Here sign this”

Sherlock “What is this?”

Sheldon “It is the Sudden Wager Settlement Agreement. I keep it handy in case I encounter a sudden wager, like right now. It is a formal document which declares the terms and conditions of the wager. It says that you are entering into a wager with me in your full mental health. It appoints Logan as the judge of the wager. It states that if you lose you will have to bow your head in front of me and accept defeat”

Sherlock turned towards Dr. Watson “Can you believe this guy?”

Sheldon , “I know. I am too awesome”. He forwarded his pen towards Sherlock.

Sherlock signed and all of them went toward Wolverine.

Sheldon , “Erm. Escuse me Mr. Wolverine. I am sure you could hear everything we were discussing back there. I would really appreciate your judgement and your signature on the Sudden Wager Settlement Agreement”.

Wolverine took a long sip of the beer and turned towards them, “All you guys… Go f**k yourselves”

And he walked out of the cheesecake factory.

Meal

“But ma… I WANT to go” said Hari in an impatient angry voice which was befitting to his 5 year old self.
His mother was not listening to him and was busy with her chores. Hari was hankering since past one hour over this issue.
Everybody is going why shouldn’t I go? I won’t be late. I will come back in time. I will be with Sumit bhaiya all the time. I will be a good boy..  These were few of his arguments to convince his mother to let him go with other kids of the neighbourhood. But for some reason his mother was still not convinced.
Hari came and sat near his mother.
“Let me go ma. PLEASE?”
“I said NO. What will you do there?”
“I will just be with Sumit bhaiya. I won’t cause any trouble or disturbance.”
“Hm. But what will you DO there?”
Hari was hesitant to answer the question. “I will look at the lightings and the orchestra etc. Let me go na ma”
Hari’s mother knew the real intention behind Hari’s persistence to go with the other kids. Somewhere she could understand it, but her sense of self-esteem was too strong to let it happen. She did not gave the permission, and due to her strict upbringing Hari could not muster the courage to disobey her and go with the other kids.
Few days later Hari again started hankering his mother.
“Let me go this time ma. Please please please”.
“No”.
“That day Sumit bhaiya took others. They said it was so beautiful. Big lightings, so many people, big band. It is really nice. I will just go with them have a look and I will be back”.
“I said NO. Here, eat your lunch, I have to go after that.” she pushed the dish towards Hari.
Hari in a momentary rage threw away the thaali, “I don’t want to eat this food. In the ceremony there is so nice food. That day Sumit bhaiya was saying there’s lots of food. Every type of food you can imagine, every type of sweet, every type of fruit. I want to eat that food. I don’t want to eat boiled potato and rice every day. I won’t eat it”.
Hari’s mother held him by his arm and slapped him 3-4 times, “You don’t want to eat this food? Here I am working day and night in other people’s homes, cleaning their floors and utensils, just to make end meet. And you won’t eat this food? Ask your drunkard father to stop wasting my hard earned money maybe then you won’t have to scavenge garbage bins like Sumit to eat that kind of food. Whatever we can afford we will eat that only. And if I ever hear that you want to go with that waste fellow Sumit to scrimmage through dustbins looking for left over from the marriages in our area, so help me god, it will be the last thing you do. Understand? Do you understand??”
Hari started crying. His mother left his arm and went out on her daily duty as house maid. Hari did not had lunch that day.
In the evening Hari was sitting outside their shanty. He could hear the sound of Dj playing songs and the band welcoming the baaraati. He imagined Sumit and other kids of the slum finding delicious left over food from the garbage bin. He wanted to go with them but he was scared of his mother. A Street dog was searching something in the nearby garbage dump. Hari looked at the dog and said softly “Hurry up lucky fellow. If your mother comes, you will be in trouble”.

Approximately 800 metres away from Hari’s shanty inside the marriage pandal someone was complaining that the naan was not well baked, the dal was bland. They were taking food and dumping it in dustbins, from there the food was being thrown in the garbage dump. Sumit and his fellow friends had a hearty meal that night, probably the last of this season.

DRAFTER

“So where are you going son?” asked the old man sitting by his side on the bench.
Arjun was waiting for his uncle to come and pick him up from the small station of Mecheda. When he got the call from his uncle to come pay them a visit, at first he was just not interested. Lots of projects were lined up, his company was involved in a rough takeover battle with another firm. Things were hectic at the work front. But as soon as his uncle mentioned that his aunty is not keeping well and wishes to see him, Arjun dropped everything and took the first train to this nondescript station somewhere in the outskirts of Bankura, West Bengal. He brought his drafter and few sheets to work on them till the time he is here.
He was supposed to reach the station at 7 in the morning but thanks to Indian railways, by the time he reached there it was close to 1 o clock. His uncle called and said he is urgently required at the hospital where Arjun’s aunty is admitted. He will come and pick him up as soon as he gets free.
Arjun hoped to pass the time by playing Angry Birds on his smartphone, but an old man came and sit beside him and was trying to start up a conversation. He thought Arjun was waiting for a train.
“So where are you going son?”
“Actually I am waiting for my uncle to pick me up”. Replied Arjun.
“So what do you do beta?.”
“I am in a construction firm uncle”. Arjun gave a short reply.
“I see.Good. Good. My son is in army”. Replied the old man proudly.
“That’s great”. Arjun kept it as short as possible.
“So what brings you in our small town?” the old man was chatty for sure.
“I am here to meet my uncle and aunty ji”
“Oh. That’s nice” the old man replied with a smile.
“So what do you do in the construction firm?”
Arjun was getting irritated. First the long journey in midst of an insane work schedule ,then this waiting at the station, then the old man asking all sorts of questions. But for the sake of politeness he could not be rude to him.
“I am an engineer there uncle ji. I prepare the layout plans”
“Wow. Seeing that drafter jutting out of your bag, I had some idea. But I was not sure. My son is also an engineer in the army. He is in the Ammunitions factory. He uses this same kind of drafter. He had a favourite drafter from his graduation days.I kept it nicely but when he joined he took it with himself. But as I hear he is doing great job with that drafter of his.”
“That’s great” replied Arjun without looking up from the screen of his smartphone.
“You engineers work too hard. They give so little leave for my son. But today he is coming.” Replied the old man with a happy smile.
“That’s great” Arjun repeated fully engrossed in the game.
“You know this will be the first time he will see his son. He could not manage to get a leave after his son was born. That’s 4 months ago.” chuckled the old man
“hmmm”.
“He is getting this leave after so much trouble. His seniors are over working him. They say he is the best engineer they have seen till now”. The old man went on and on.
There was just one hawker in the entire platform selling tea. He came up to the old man with a cup of tea. “ chacha. Ye lijiye chaai. Aaj to Pratyush aa rha hai na?” [uncle. Here have tea. Today Pratyush is coming home no?]
The old man thankfully took the tea. Arjun thought the old man must be someone of repute inthese parts that’s why hawkers are coming and offering him tea, that too without asking and free of cost.
“you should have the tea made by Raam Bhagwan here. He is truly a god in terms of chaai, as his sname suggests”. Theold man told Arjun with a chuckle.
Raam Bhagwan just folded his hands and smiled. Arjun ordered a tea for himself.
Sound of train’s horn could be heard from a distance. On both sides of the station there were large open paddy fields. The old man got restless in finishing his tea. Arjun could see a blackish blur on the railway tracks in far distance.
The old man gulped down his tea quickly and put the cup in dustbin. The train came closer now the engine was clearly visible and the sound of the horn was more powerful.
The old man was smiling.
The train reduced its speed , huffed and puffed as it entered the station and gradually came to a halt. As the compartments were passing one by one the old man was peering through the windows to see if he could see his son. 4-5 compartments back from where the old man and Arjun were standing, a young man dressed in Army uniform got down with a bedding.
The old man's face filled with happiness as he hurried towards him. At the same time Arjungot a call from his uncle saying he is reaching the station in 5 minutes.
Phewww. The old man meets his son and my uncle comes here. Finally.. ! Arjun said to himself.
He got down and again got engrossed in Angry Birds.
Few minutes later he could see the old man coming with the station master. They were arguing over something. The station master was trying to calm him down very politely but the old man was furious over something. He took him towards the exit of the station. Arjun shrugged and continued his game.
Moments later he could see the station master coming back , this time alone. He couldn't help but ask him what happened.
“Excuse me sir. What’s up with uncle ji? His son was supposed to come today no?” asked Arjun
The stationmaster took a good look at him, “May I know who are you?”
Ram Bhagwan came up from behind, “Baabuji baat kar rhe the inse” [ uncle ji was talking tohim]
“I see. Hisson did not made it” the station master said, in a really strange manner.
Arjun was kind of taken aback , “I don’t understand. Did not made it means what? He missed the train or something?”
Stationmaster took one look at Ram Bahgwan who looked away. “It’s the saddest thing. His son was an engineer in Indian Army. First engineer from our village. He was the proudest man in the whole district. He got him married with much fan fare.Around 6 months back his grand son was born. 2 months back Pratyush finally got his leave sanctioned and was coming back home. Just a day before that his supply convoy was ambushed. He died on the spot.”
Ram bhagwan wiped a tear using his gamcha.
“The day when he was supposed to arrive uncle ji came to receive him with a band. But henever made it. Uncle ji could not bear the shock and somehow still belies his son is coming back. Often he turns up at the station waiting for his son to get down form the train”
Arjun was at a loss to say anything.
“His family has asked us to co operate. I have to make up stories for him. Like today Isaid his leave got cancelled that’s why he could not come. I even showed him a fake telegram saying he could not connect the call from there. He does not understand technology so much. So he believed me and asked me to send a letter of complaint to his superiors as to why they are not letting him have a leave to see his son. Ram Bhagwan keeps an eye on him when he sits here waiting for his son. But none of us have the courage to remind him that he is not coming back” .
Arjun just stood there wondering what to say. The station master patted his shoulder and went away.
Ram bhagwan too went back to his stall. By then Arjun’s uncle reached the station.
 One week later ……
Arjun was back at the platform to catch the return train. Aunty was feeling much better now  He could see the old man sitting at the same spot on the platform near the tea stall of Ram Bhagwan.
“Hello uncleji. Remember me?” Arjun greeted him.
The old man did not recognized him, but looking at his drafter he recollected something, “oh.You are an engineer? My son is also an engineer in Indian Army” said proudly.
Arjun felt a knot below his throat. He gulped it down.
He took out the drafter and gave it to the old man, “Uncle ji. Here, take this drafter as agift from an engineer in construction to an engineer in Indian Army.”
The old man was surprised and touched in equal measure, “why are you giving this to me son?My son has similar kind of drafter. Its his favorite  I kept it nicely but when he joined he took it with himself. But as I hear he is doing great job with that drafter of his.”
“Then my drafter will be lucky to be used by such an engineer” replied Arjun softly and sat down beside the old man.
He ordered 2 cups of tea from Ram Bhagwan.
“so tell me uncle ji, How was Pratyush as a student….”
The old man tightened his grip on the drafter as he continued talking about his son with the happiest smile. Arjun listened to him with rapt attention.
He was thankful that his train was scheduled to come before Jammu Tawi Express and he desperately wanted it to be on time.
